The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Timothy R. MacDonald, age 30 of Boston Mass., for grand larceny as the result of a month-long investigation into a stolen utility vehicle from the Town of Hyde Park.

Mr. MacDonald is accused of using the internet to falsely claim he was a member of the Suffolk County Emergency Services Unit in Boston, during which he also claimed to be interested in buying a utility vehicle. Arrangements were made for him to pick up a $23,000 Polaris Ranger from a local business; the business had been sent a purchase order and was expecting to be sent a check after it was picked up. The vehicle was picked up on 6/13/14, however a check for the payment never arrived. On 7/11/14, the Sheriff’s Office Detective Division was contacted and started an investigation, and on 8/13/14, Mr. MacDonald was arrested. Mr. MacDonald is accused of taking the vehicle and not paying for it while using a false purchase order from an organization which he didn’t belong to. On 7/12/14, the vehicle was recovered in Maine and has since been legitimately re-sold there with the original owner’s consent.

Mr. MacDonald has been charged with grand larceny in the 3rd degree, which is a Class D Felony. After being processed, Mr. MacDonald was arraigned at the Town of Hyde Park Court and was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. His next appearance is in Hyde Park Court on 8/28/14.

As with any criminal case, the charges described here are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
