The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office advises travelers in Hopewell Junction and LaGrange that there may be significant traffic delays on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, and Thursday, September 25, 2014, due to services for NYPD Officer Michael Williams.
Officer Williams was killed in the line of duty on Sunday morning, September 21, 2014, in New York City. Funeral arrangements are taking place in Dutchess County, and a large number of people are expected to attend both the wake and funeral. Details on possible traffic issues and roads to avoid are below:
Wednesday, September 24, 2014, from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.: Avoid State Route 82 in Hopewell Junction if possible. Significant traffic congestion is expected throughout the area.
Thursday, September 25, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Avoid State Route 82 in LaGrange between East Noxon Road and the Taconic State Parkway if possible. Heavy congestion and delays are expected on Route 82, and lighter delays are also possible on the Taconic State Parkway.
Portions of Route 82 in this area may also be closed for a period of time if funeral traffic reaches a certain level. At this time, that remains only a possibility, and every effort will be made to keep the road open. If a closure becomes necessary, law enforcement officers will be on scene to direct motorists safely to a detour.
Members of the Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, East Fishkill Police, and the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response are working diligently to keep traffic congestion and delays to a minimum in the affected areas.
Any changes or additional traffic advisories will be released as needed.
