Holiday Season Crackdown period results in 116 arrests in Dutchess County

During the Holiday Crackdown period of December 12, 2014 thru January 1, 2015 members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, Town of Hyde Park Police Department, Town of East Fishkill Police Department, City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, City of Beacon Police Department, Village of Millerton Police Department and Village of Red Hook Police Department conducted Impaired Driving details consisting of Saturation Patrols as well as Sobriety Checkpoints. The arrests included 97 impaired driving arrests as well as 19 other arrests.

Saturation Patrols were deployed by all participating agencies during this three week period and on Saturday December 20, 2014, members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of East Fishkill Police Department conducted a joint-agency Sobriety Checkpoint on Route 82 in the Town of East Fishkill and on Saturday December 27, 2014, members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and the Hyde Park Police Department conducted a joint-agency Sobriety Checkpoint on Route 9 in the Town of Hyde Park.

These details were funded by the Governors Traffic Safety Board and the NYS STOP-DWI Foundation which once again awarded the Dutchess County STOP-DWI Program a “Crackdown Enforcement Grant” for the 2014-2015 Crackdown periods. The objective of this continued enforcement grant is to revitalize and enhance the visibility of the STOP-DWI Program through coordinated multi-agency impaired driving enforcement details targeting identified statewide crackdown periods. They also include the assignment of certified Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) to aid in the identification and apprehension of drivers impaired by drugs other than alcohol.

Dutchess County STOP-DWI Coordinator William Johnson stated, “In a coordinated effort to keep our roadways safe, the Crackdown Grant Initiative allows for enhanced law enforcement presence on the most risky travel periods. Nationwide, there are statistical increases in the number of DUI’s and fatal drunk driving crashes around the holidays. All of which are 100% preventable. This proactive, countywide effort has once again proven to be an effective tool in the identification and apprehension of those who choose to drive impaired by alcohol and or drugs. The message is clear…Have a Plan. Don’t Drive. Get a Ride.”

A total of 835 vehicles passed thru both checkpoints with 8 persons arrested for impaired driving averaging approximately 1 impaired driving arrest for each car passing thru the checkpoint.

Below is a listing of arrestees and charges from both the checkpoint and saturation patrols.

• Donna Robinson (22 yoa) of Hyde Park, NY was charged with Vehicular Assault 2nd a felony as well as DWI & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 2nd both misdemeanors after being involved in a personal injury auto crash in the Town of Hyde Park. She was treated at MHRH for minor injuries and released to appear in Hyde Park Town Court on 12/16/14.
   
• Casey Evans (37 yoa) of Salt Point, NY was charged with DWI a felony after being involved in the same personal injury auto crash in the Town of Hyde Park as Donna Robinson. The DWI was a felony since he had a prior DWI conviction within the prior ten years, on December 17, 2009 in the Town of Hyde Park. He was released to appear in Hyde Park Court on 1/13/15.
   
• Deneen Majors (26 yoa) of Poughkeepsie, NY was charged with DWI & BAC .08% or more both misdemeanors in the City of Poughkeepsie.
   
• Jennifer Brangan (25 yoa) of LaGrange, NY was charged with DWI & BAC .08% or more both misdemeanors in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
   
• Danielle Pease (19 yoa) of Winthrop, ME was charged with DWI & Aggravated DWI both misdemeanors in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
   
• Margaret Rivituso (49 yoa) of Fishkill, NY was charged with DWI & BAC .08% or more both misdemeanors after being involved in a property damage auto crash in the Village of Fishkill.
   
• Carlos Romany (44 yoa) of Poughkeepsie, NY was charged with DWI & BAC .08% or more both misdemeanors in the Town of Wappinger.
   
• Abraham Orrego (28 yoa) of Poughkeepsie, NY was charged with DWI a misdemeanor in the City of Poughkeepsie.
   
• Andre McKinney (24 yoa) of Beacon, NY was charged with DWI & BAC .08% or more in the Town of LaGrange.
   
• Timothy Thomson (69 yoa) of Poughkeepsie, NY was charged with DWAI a violation after being involved in a property damage auto crash in the Town of Pleasant Valley.
   
• Corey Harrison (24 yoa) of Kingston, NY was charged with DWI & Aggravated DWI both misdemeanors after being involved in a property damage auto crash in the Town of Red Hook.
   
• Vincent Sceri (54 yoa) of Wappinger, NY was charged with DWAI a violation in the Town of East Fishkill.
   
• Dan Stefanchik (59 yoa) of Hopewell Junction, NY was charged with DWI & BAC .08% or more both misdemeanors in the Town of East Fishkill.
   
• Karen Dobbins (53 yoa) of Pawling, NY was charged with DWI a misdemeanor in the Village of Pawling as the result of an erratic vehicle complaint and then backing up into a police car.
   
• Dawn Winters (53 yoa) of Hyde Park, NY was charged with DWAI Drugs & Petit Larceny both misdemeanor as well as Grand Larceny 3rd (stolen vehicle) a felony after being involved in a property damage auto crash in the Town of Hyde Park.
   
• Albert Bersihaj (20 yoa) of Stormville, NY was charged with DWI & BAC .08% or more both misdemeanors in the City of Poughkeepsie.
   
• Curley Ware (23 yoa) of Wappinger Falls, NY was charged with DWI & BAC.08% or more both misdemeanors in the City of Poughkeepsie.
   
• Micheal O’Hearn (48 yoa) of Hyde Park, NY was charged with DWI, BAC .08% or more & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st all felonies in the Town of Hyde Park. The DWI charges were felonies since he had a prior DWI conviction within the prior ten years, on July 30, 2006 in the Town of Rhinebeck. The AUO charge was a felony since his license was suspended for a DWAI conviction on July 3, 2013 and he was intoxicated while operating the vehicle.
   
• Craig Lampe (36 yoa) of LaGrange, NY was charged with DWI & BAC both felonies after being involved in a property damage auto crash in the Town of Lagrange. The charges were felonies since he had a prior DWI conviction within the prior ten years on May 17, 2005.
   
• Rodrigo Ruiz-Hernandez (33 yoa) of Poughkeepsie, NY was charged with DWI a misdemeanor in the Town of Hyde Park.

• Rosemarie Dija (44 yoa) of Islip, NY was charged with DWI & BAC .08% or more both misdemeanors.
   
• Sean Flanagan (27 yoa) of Poughkeepsie, NY was charged with DWI a misdemeanor.
   
• Robert Usher (41 yoa) of Wappingers Falls, NY was charged with DWI a misdemeanor.
   
• Margaret Albea (46 yoa) of Wappingers Falls, NY was charged with DWI & BAC .08% or more both misdemeanors.
   
• Margaret Kinney (49 yoa) of Carmel, NY was DWI & BAC .08% or more both misdemeanors.
   
• Richard Beams (49 yoa) of Millbrook, NY was charged with DWI & BAC .08% or more both misdemeanors.
   
• Daniel Eckert (44 yoa) of Red Hook, NY was charged with DWI & Aggravated DWI both misdemeanors.

Additionally, 11 persons ranging from 17 yoa to 56 yoa were charged with Unlawful Possession of Marihuana a violation.

All subjects arrested and charged are alleged to have committed the crime and are presumed innocent until proven guilty and are to appear in local courts at a later date.
