County Executive William R. Steinhaus took action to support Red Hook’s effort to obtain funding for St. Margaret’s Home in Red Hook.
In a letter to Commissioner of the State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Bernadette Castro, the County Executive said, “We in Dutchess County take great pride in our historic heritage. More than a century ago, St. Margaret’s Home was established to teach skills to single women and enable them to become self-sufficient at a time when women had few opportunities for independence. We owe it to our ancestors to preserve the County’s historic structures whenever possible.”
The Executive noted, “I know the building is valued by local residents and is at the southern gateway to the Town of Red Hook. I am eager to help their effort to restore its beauty and make aesthetic and safety improvements to transform it into a viable community resource.” The Executive weighed in at the request of Red Hook County Legislator Marcus Molinaro.
