The Dutchess County Office For The Aging offers a wide variety of services to meet the nutritional needs of persons 60 years and older. Services include congregate meals at senior friendship centers, Home Delivered Meals for the homebound, nutrition education and counseling, picnics during the summer, and health promotion events. In the event of weather-related disruptions to Home Delivered Meals deliveries, announcements will be made on area radio stations.
Senior Friendship Center (Congregate Sites) - For those seniors who wish a tasty, nutritious meal combined with social activities and fellowship, most of the eight senior friendship centers are open Monday through Thursdays. As of June 2021, the OFA friendship centers in Beacon, East Fishkill, Millerton, Pawling, Red Hook, and South Amenia have reopened to senior clients, with the Tri-Town and City of Poughkeepsie friendship centers soon to follow.
Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) - This program promotes improved nutrition through increased consumption of locally grown fresh produce, with the added benefit of expanding sales at participating markets and farm stands. Age and income are the qualifying factors for SFMNP benefits. Coupon booklets for 2021 are expected to be ready for distribution to qualifying seniors by early August.
