Dutchess County is here to help during cold weather emergencies, ensuring everyone has access to a safe, warm place to stay. Our Department of Community and Family Services (DCFS) works closely with a strong network of community and faith-based organizations to provide emergency shelters and warming centers throughout the county.
These organizations include:
How to Access Emergency Shelter or Warming Centers
By calling first and utilizing the resources available, Dutchess County can help ensure every resident has a warm and safe place to stay during the coldest nights. We’re here to help; please don’t hesitate to reach out:
Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM
Call DCFS at 845-486-3300 for emergency shelter placement.
After 5 PM, on Weekends and Holidays
Call 2-1-1, select English or Spanish, then press 7 to speak with trained staff who will assist with overnight shelter placement based on availability.
Why We Encourage You to Call First
While we have many resources available, shelter placements are made by referral. To ensure you or your loved ones can access assistance quickly and safely, please call ahead.
Calling helps us:
If a family with young children needs shelter on a frigid night, calling ahead allows us to find the most appropriate placement — like a family shelter that provides meals and other support services.
Outreach for Vulnerable Individuals
Our specialized outreach teams are also on the streets, connecting with vulnerable individuals where they are to ensure they’re aware of available resources. In emergency situations, you can also contact local law enforcement or call 911, and they’ll help connect you with the right services.
