Government Transparency

Freedom of Information Law

The Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) provides the public with the right to access certain government records. These requests are governed by Sections 84-90 of the Public Officers Law.

If you wish to make a FOIL request for documents by e-mail, direct your FOIL request to the Records Access Officer by emailing comptroller@dutchessny.gov.  Be sure to put "FOIL Request" in the message’s subject line and include as much information as possible in describing your request. Additionally, please provide your name and a contact telephone number where you can be reached to discuss your request if necessary.

We will acknowledge a request within five business days of the receipt of a written request for a record reasonably described.

You may also use this FOIL Application Form (.pdf), developed by the Dutchess County Attorney’s Office, to assist in making your request.  Mail your request to: Office of the Comptroller, 22 Market Street, 4th Floor, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

Report a Concern

Fraud, corruption, mismanagement, or waste within government erodes and undermines the public trust in the good work that agencies and departments are tasked with carrying out.

The best way to ensure good government practices is to effectively promote transparency and investigate all potential areas of fraud.

If you know of any waste, fraud, or abuse within Dutchess County Government, you can use the Fraud and Abuse Complaint Form (.pdf) to report it to our office for investigation and review.

Complaints can be made anonymously; all personal information reported will be kept confidential unless required otherwise by law.
