HYDE PARK, NY – Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino joined local employers, volunteer organizations and community partners on Thursday to host the County’s first-ever “Older Adults Skills Fair,” giving older adults across Dutchess County a chance to connect their valuable skills and experience with part-time jobs and volunteer opportunities. Nearly 500 seniors attended the event, held at the Henry A. Wallace Visitor and Education Center in Hyde Park, eager to explore new ways to stay engaged in the community.

“We know our seniors want to stay active and involved, and this fair was a way to help them do just that,” said Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino. “I want to thank all of the vendors and organizations who came out to meet with them – and to the nearly 500 older adults who showed up ready to work or give back to their community. Events like this prove that when we listen and bring the right partners together, we can open new doors for our neighbors at every stage of life.”

Dozens of local businesses and organizations took part in the fair, including Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County, Dutchess BOCES, Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome and many more representing industries including health and wellness, community action and advocacy, volunteer services and gardening.

Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County CEO Eelco Kessels, said, “Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County was honored to participate in the inaugural Older Adults Skills Fair, hosted by County Executive Serino. It was an inspiring afternoon, where we connected with over 30 individuals eager to share their expertise – whether as volunteers on our construction sites or as experts in our Homebuying University classrooms. The wealth of knowledge and generosity of those participating is a true testament to the power of community.”

The Older Adults Skills Fair is part of Dutchess County’s commitment to helping older residents stay healthy, connected and independent.
