Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro and Veterans Services Director Adam Roche invite residents to participate in Dutchess County’s Memorial Day ceremony at the Dutchess County War Memorial on Monday, May 30th, at 11 a.m. The Dutchess County War Memorial is located at John K. Rinaldi Memorial Park at the intersection of Raymond Avenue and Main Street in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
The event will gather local veterans from several eras and will include an invocation, benediction presentation of colors, and remarks and a wreath presentation by New York State Senator Sue Serino. Lieutenant Ensign Khona from the USS Roosevelt, the adopted ship of Dutchess County, will offer remarks. Fellow sailors from the USS Roosevelt will be in attendance alongside residents to reflect on the sacrifice of these brave military heroes.
Memorial Day is a national holiday which honors the men and women who lost their life while serving in the military. They are remembered and honored for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
County Executive Molinaro said, “Memorial Day is a day of utmost importance. On this day we need to stop and recognize the men and women that made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Participate in one of your local Memorial Day events as we come together to remember all those heroes we have lost, honor their memory, and thank them for all they have done to protect our freedom.”
County Executive Molinaro and Director Roche encourage Dutchess County residents to celebrate local veterans by participating in one or more of the numerous Memorial Day events planned across the county. The Dutchess County Division of Veterans Services reached out to local municipalities and community organizations and has compiled a listing of events taking place on or around Memorial Day.
