Welcome to the official page for the Dutchess County Legislature. The Legislature is composed of 25 legislative districts across Dutchess County and serves as the County’s policy-making body. It has the power to levy taxes, adopt the County Budget, make appropriations, and adopt local laws subject to approval by the County Executive.
Chair Yvette Valdés Smith has dedicated her life to public service - whether it be teaching students in the classroom, mentoring fellow colleagues and educators, volunteering to help struggling families, or advocating for local Hudson Valley community initiatives. She serves as ex officio on all legislative committees and works with her fellow 24 legislators to serve all Dutchess County residents.
As Chair, her job is to make Dutchess County the best place to live, visit, work, raise a family, and retire. Her door is always open, so please reach out if there is anything her staff or the legislature can do for you.

The Clerk of the Legislature and the staff serve as the administrative arm of the County Legislature and are the official link to all other departments in the County and the constituency at large.
