Bob Gorman was born, raised, and continues to reside in the Town of Poughkeepsie.  He is known to many people in the area through his family business, Gorman’s Garage.  Bob’s strong work ethic started early, at age 7 when he would help his father and grandfather in the now third generation business, which was established in 1935.

Bob’s passion for repair and towing continued, and he participated in and completed a two year Dutchess County BOCES Mechanic Training Program while attaining a Regents Diploma at Arlington High School. He then went on to graduate from a two year program at American Diesel and Automotive School in Denver. He has continued to work in the industry and is a strong advocate of professionalism and safety in the field of towing and recovery.  Bob currently serves as the President of the Empire State Towing and Recovery Association and has volunteered with the Association for over 20 years. He has also previously served on the Town of Poughkeepsie Planning Board.

A former nautilus trainer, Bob can be found working out in the gym, running, hiking, mountain biking throughout the Hudson Valley, and is an avid scuba diver.  It was through these many activities and other community volunteering that he met Lori Decker, who had just formed Angels of Light as a non-profit organization.  He has been a volunteer with Angels of Light ever since then.

Volunteering to deliver presents and active with many Angels of Light events, Bob has learned firsthand the issues that the children and families encounter. The expressions on the faces of the parents and children have a special place in Bob’s heart, motivating him to continue whenever he is needed to support the mission of Angels of Light.
