The Dutchess County Department of Behavioral & Community Health has added a session to its popular Drowning Prevention Seminar Series, designed to raise awareness and develop skills to recognize a swimmer in distress. The free presentation will take place on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 8 p.m. at the Poughkeepsie Tennis Club, 135 South Hamilton Street, in Poughkeepsie.
Local lifeguards and residents are encouraged to attend to receive guidance on supervising swimmers and identifying swimmers in distress. The session will also include an informative video on drowning victim recognition and time to discuss lifeguard duties and responsibilities as they relate to Department of Behavioral & Community Health regulations. All participants who successfully complete the program will be awarded a certificate of attendance.
Those unable to attend this session can take advantage of one more opportunity to participate on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 9:45 a.m. at the Town of Stanford Recreation Department, 86 Creamery Road, Stanfordville, NY.
Seating for the seminars is limited. Reservations are accepted up to two days prior by calling (845) 486-3404 or by e-mail to HealthInfo@DutchessNY.gov. Facilities interested in setting up a seminar may also contact the Department. The Department kindly asks for any requests for information to be directed to the Department and not the seminar sites.
