On December 12, 2019 in Dutchess County Court, Judge Peter M. Forman sentenced 38 year old Terry Cherry to 25 years to life in State Prison for the crime of Murder in the Second Degree, and 15 years in State Prison, to run concurrently, for the crime of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
On December 16, 2019 in Dutchess County Court, Judge Forman sentenced 41 year old Oba Johnson to 25 years to life in State Prison for the crime of Murder in the Second Degree.
A jury found Terry Cherry and Oba Johnson guilty of the crimes following a two-week jury trial that concluded on October 1, 2019. The crimes involved the shooting death of 20 year old Jaquain Johnson in the City of Poughkeepsie on November 5, 2018.
The case was investigated by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department and prosecuted by Bureau Chief Robert Knapp and Senior Assistant District Attorney Aviv Segal.
