Wappingers Falls man charged with 2017 Poughkeepsie murder

On July 8, 2019 in Dutchess County Court before the Hon. Edward McLoughlin, 36 year old Anthony Abbott was arraigned on Indictment # 71/2019, charging him with two counts each of Murder in the First Degree, Murder in the Second Degree, Robbery in the First Degree and Burglary in the First Degree.

According to DA Grady,

“The defendant is charged with intentionally causing the death of 68 year old City of Poughkeepsie resident James Griffin on December 30, 2017 during the course of robbing the victim and burglarizing his home.  The victim died as a result of the injuries caused by the defendant during the course of the Robbery.”

 “The defendant has been incarcerated since January, 2018 on a Robbery charge which is pending in Ulster County.”

“I’d like to compliment the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department with conducting a thorough and challenging investigation in conjunction with Bureau Chief Robert Knapp from my office that led to this Indictment."

"The defendant, who was represented at the arraignment by the Public Defender, was remanded and the case adjourned for further proceedings to July 26, 2019 before Judge McLoughlin."
