I am reaching out to all of you to share an update on the 4.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred this morning. The earthquake originated near Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, and the effects were felt across the Hudson Valley and beyond, including here in Dutchess County.
At this time, there have been no injuries or damage reported throughout the county to the 911 Communications Center.
I have been coordinating with Dutchess County Emergency Response (DCER) to monitor the situation. DCER has have been in contact with state and federal authorities and we are communicating with local municipalities. Public Works Building Division has been assessing County facilities and the Dutchess County Sheriff Office’s road patrols have also been out assessing roadways and communities for any possible damage.
911 has been inundated with calls this morning. Please only call 911 for an actual emergency situation. Please do not call with questions or for status updates.
To learn more about earthquakes, including how to respond before, during and after an earthquake event, this Ready.gov page is an excellent resource: https://www.ready.gov/earthquakes
Stay safe and thank you as always for your service to our community.
