Support Dutchess County’s Linear Park System

Caring for and maintaining our local rail trails

William R. Steinhaus Rail Trail  /  Harlem Valley Rail Trail  /  Empire State Trail -Maybrook Trailway

Do you enjoy using the Rail Trail systems within our county? So do we! That is why we are working to make these linear parks even better!

Ever since planning began to convert our Rail Trail systems into usable parks, our goal has been to partner with community rail trail enthusiasts who can assist us in keeping our parks clean and maintained.

How Can You Support our linear park systems?

As our trail systems continue to grow, community support will be needed to help maintain the WRS Dutchess Rail Trail, Harlem Valley Rail Trail and Dutchess County’s portion of the Empire State Trail. An organization’s time and talent can help support in the following ways:

Adopt-A-Trail Sponsorship

As an Adopt-A-Trail sponsor, your organization will be responsible for litter clean-up along a designated half mile section of the DRT four times per year or during each season. The Dutchess County Department of Public Works will provide garbage bags, and rubber gloves and will remove the collected garbage afterwards. Your sponsorship and efforts will be recognized on Dutchess County Government social media channels as a rail trail beautification steward.

Adopt-A-Trail sponsorship is a perfect opportunity for scout or youth organizations, schools, civic or environmental clubs, town committees, local businesses as well as fraternal or religious organizations to make a positive contribution to the health and well-being of our Dutchess County community. Recruitment for the Adopt a Trail volunteer program is on going. Please reach out to the park office at 845-298-4600 for more information.
