Harlem Valley Rail Trail


The Harlem Valley Rail Trail (HVRT) is a terrific family destination park for county residents and visitors. The scenic paved trail weaves through farms, wetlands, forest hillsides, historic settlements and village centers. What a wonderful opportunity for bicyclists, walkers, joggers, roller-bladers and more to enjoy the fresh air and natural beauty of our County up close.  

New Sections Open 2020

Several new sections of the Harlem Valley Rail Trail are now open for public use. These sections are from the Village of Millerton to Beilke-State Line Road, and from Rudd Pond Road to the Town of Ancram in Columbia County. The complete trail will be open in Spring 2021.


To prevent the spread of COVID19 please practice CDC sanitary and safety guidelines when using the trail. Your cooperation is essential to keep all our visitors and park staff safe.

Rules of the Harlem Valley Rail Trail

Please observe the following rules to keep our trail safe and clean for all to enjoy:

The trail is open from dawn to dusk.

This is a "Carry in/ Carry Out" Park- NO LITTERING

All Groups who wish to use the trail for ANY special event or activity must submit a Usage Permit from the Parks Division Main office and submit the required fee and insurance before any event will be permitted.

Please be courteous and considerate of other trail users.
