NERLEEA Youth Cadet Program

Join our team, become a Law Enforcement Youth Program!

NERLEEA Police Cadet logoThank you for your interest in the Dutchess County Deputy Sheriff's P.B.A. & Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Youth Cadet Program. We are a chartered Northeast Regional Law Enforcement Education Association (NERLEEA) Youth Cadet Post that provides training and experiences in the field of Law Enforcement to Dutchess County youths.

Our Youth Cadet Program is for young adults, ranging from ages 14 to 20, who not only have an interest in Law Enforcement, but also an interest in community service, leadership and physical fitness.

This program is hosted at the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Center (DCSO LEC) with meetings scheduled three times a month, usually every other Tuesday, between the hours of 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm and one Saturday activity a month. The DCSO LEC is located at 108 Parker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Additional activities, field trips and community service projects can occur off site, with location and dates provided once determined. This program begins early October and ends in June with a cadet graduation ceremony.

There are costs associated with our Youth Program.

A $155 payment to “D.C.D.S.P.B.A.” is due at enrolment for first time registrants. This payment covers the NERLEEA membership fee and other program expenses including a uniform hat & shirt. Each year after, returning cadets will be responsible for the $115 renewal fee which is due each September/October.

Our Youth Program is not a "scared straight" program for troubled youth, and we expect our cadets to hold themselves to specific standards as outlined in our rules & regulations handbook. If you have any questions regarding our youth Program, please contact our Post Advisor – Sgt. Alonzo Montanyai via email at DCExplorer108@gmail.com.
