DUTCHESS COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office was formed in 1717 after Sheriff Corneles Van Denbogart was assigned the position by the King of England. In 2017, under the leadership of Sheriff Adrian “Butch” Anderson, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office completed 300 years of service to the County of Dutchess.

The Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer of the county and is responsible for maintaining and running the county jail. Dutchess County services an area of 825 square miles. This includes 20 towns, 8 villages and 2 cities with a total county population of approximately 300,000 residents. 

DUTCHESS COUNTY JAIL EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS:

  • 25 Dollars an hour.
  • 2 scheduled 8 hour shifts a week (one weekday and one weekend day) with the option to work up to 40 hours per week when available (can work up to 1040 hours a year).
  • Shift swaps available for your scheduled days if needed.
  • Paid on the job training and when attending the Correction Officer Basic Academy.
  • If full time position becomes available, all training done as a part time Correction Officer counts for the full-time position.
  • Service credit counts towards NYS Retirement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Age - Eligibility for appointment begins when a candidate reaches age 20.
  • Driver's License - Possession of a valid New York State Driver License is required at the time of application, appointment, and to maintain position.
  • Citizenship - United States citizenship is required.

  • Final Interview

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office Correction Division is committed to fulfilling the needs of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office and the community at large by providing for the safe, secure, and humane housing of persons committed to its custody.
