About the Civil Division

The Civil Division is a state mandated service of the Sheriff’s Office. Its purpose and function is to serve papers.

Generally, the Civil Division serves: Summons, Warrants of Eviction, Income Executions, Executions, and Family Court Matters. There are always at least two parties involved. Those parties are the plaintiff and the defendant. The plaintiff is the individual, or company, issuing the papers. The defendant is the one receiving the papers. Thus, the defendant represents the group of people being served.
