The Civil Division is a state mandated service of the Sheriff’s Office. Its purpose and function is to serve papers.
Generally, the Civil Division serves: Summons, Warrants of Eviction, Income Executions, Executions, and Family Court Matters. There are always at least two parties involved. Those parties are the plaintiff and the defendant. The plaintiff is the individual, or company, issuing the papers. The defendant is the one receiving the papers. Thus, the defendant represents the group of people being served.
Yes. Fees vary from service to service. If you would like to obtain a copy of the fee chart, please call (845) 486-3840. ALL fees are non-refundable. Fees paid to the Civil Division must be in the form of check, money order or cash. You may issue your check or money order payable to the Dutchess County Sheriff.
Paperwork for process may be hand delivered to the Civil Division, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. (office closed on County holidays) -Or- you may mail them to:
