Of the many and varied undertakings of our department, at the very core of what we do is provide our local communities with the information and tools needed to plan for future growth and preservation. This includes researching and sharing best practices on a wide array of topics, evaluating emerging issues and trends in the field of planning and zoning, collecting and analyzing relevant data, and tackling bigger-picture thinking such as on community revitalization or affordable housing policy. In addition, we collaborate on training opportunities for local planning boards and zoning boards of appeal, and work with local municipalities to administer the required GML-239 referral process.
